Year 9 Aspirations (options)

The Year 9 Options process begins in earnest in the Spring Term of Year 9. All Year 9 students will participate in an assembly in which detailed information of the
process will be given. This includes what students should consider when making their choices; how our dedicated staff team can support students in making
informed decisions based on their interests, aspirations and goals, as well as providing them with an information booklet to share at home.

In the Spring Term we hold a Year 9 Progress Evening for all Year 9 students and their parent(s) / carer(s). As well as providing an opportunity to discuss your child’s current progress with their subject teachers, the evening will also showcase the many subjects we have on offer for study at Key Stage 4. Staff will be available throughout the evening to answer any questions you may have about the courses on offer, what your child should expect if opting to study a particular subject and to provide any specific advice and guidance as required.

In addition to the above, we will be holding our annual Careers’ Fair. All Year 9 students will have the opportunity to visit the numerous stalls and chat to the
representatives who can help advise on Option choices, particularly helpful if they have a particular career path, plans for higher education or future goals in mind.

Finally, we have put together this webpage which includes all the information and support you and your child require in order to understand the process and what it entails. You will find videos and course information for every subject on offer for study at Headlands School. The information provided will give you and your child an opportunity to see what each subject entails, consider which are of interest to them and help you to support them in making an informed choice.
